SAN MARCOS – Texas State Volleyball and Creeds & Crests have teamed up to host the Creeds & Crests Classic, the team's home tournament set for the second weekend of the 2016 season.
 
"I am ecstatic to share with Nan Patton and Creeds & Crests our annual volleyball tournament this fall. Nan and her family have been very active Bobcat supporters and huge volleyball fans for several years," said Head Coach Karen Chisum. "I just can't thank her enough for helping us advance this event."
 
The Bobcats will open the tournament against SFA at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2 and will follow with a match against Kennesaw State at 7 p.m. that night, concluding the tournament with a 2 p.m. match against Tulsa on Saturday, Sept. 3. Kennesaw State will face Tulsa at 12:30 p.m. Friday followed by a matchup between SFA and Tulsa at 5 p.m. that day. Kennesaw State and SFA open the second day of the tournament at 12 p.m. before the Bobcats square off against Tulsa.
 
While Texas State Volleyball and Chisum are excited to team up with Creeds & Crests and Patton, the feeling is mutual. Patton mentions a heartfelt reason why she is happy to contribute to the tournament.
 
"My dad was the recipient of a scholarship when he was an athlete at Texas State. It was because of that scholarship that he was able to get his degree, which, in turn, made life better for our family. Through coaching he touched the lives of thousands of high school athletes over the years, and this inspired me to give back to Texas State Athletics," Patton said. "When the volleyball tournament became available, I was very excited to be able to pick it up. I truly believe in women helping women become all they can be in this world. This is my way of giving back."
 
Don't forget to head to Strahan Coliseum on the weekend of Sept. 2 to catch the tournament. Also, the home opener is Tuesday, Aug. 30 against Baylor at Strahan while the Bobcats open the season at North Texas on Aug. 26-27 where Texas State will face Ohio State, North Texas and Nevada.
