LAFAYETTE, La. – The Texas State softball team dropped the series finale Sunday afternoon to the No. 4 UL Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns by a score of 3-0. The Bobcats fall to 23-15 on the year and 4-8 in Sun Belt Conference play.
Â
Randi Rupp pitched a complete game for Texas State and allowed just three hits while striking out five for the Bobcats. Rupp falls to 16-8 this season.
Â
With one out in the bottom of the first, Rupp walked a pair and hit one to load the bases with one out. The sophomore hurler got out of the jam, however, by forcing a pop up to second and earning her first strikeout of the day to go into the second inning tied at 0-0.
Â
The Cajuns took the lead in the bottom of the third inning with a solo shot by Hayley Hayden to left field. One more base runner got on in the third, but she was called out for leaving early.
Â
In the top of the fourth with
Kimberlin Naivar on first after getting hit by the first pitch she saw,
Corrina Liscano registered the first Texas State hit of the ball game with two outs. The runners were stranded at first and second after a strikeout ended the inning.
Â
Solo shots in the bottom half of the fourth and sixth by Sara Corbello and Aleah Craighton extended the Cajuns lead to 3-0.
Â
The Bobcats put a runner in scoring position in the top of the sixth after
Kelli Baker drew the first Texas State walk of the day. She advanced to second on an illegal pitch but that would prove to be as far as she would go as the Cajuns retired Texas State in order.
Â
Liscano finished the day with the only Bobcat hit and Baker drew the only walk.
Â
Texas State will remain on the road for a single game next Wednesday against Houston Baptist. First pitch in Houston, Texas is slated for 3 p.m. at Husky Field. Live stats will be available at
