Softball Launches Four Home Runs In Victory Over Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. – The Texas State softball team took game one of the series against Appalachian State Friday evening by a score of 12-0 in five innings. The Bobcats took the lead early in the first inning and never looked back. With the win, the Bobcats improved to 31-18 overall and 10-9 in Sun Belt Conference play.
 
Texas State scattered 12 hits from nine different players to score runs in all but the second inning. Four of the Texas State hits were home runs and two additional hits were off of the centerfield fence.
 
Randi Rupp earned her 23rd victory of the season after pitching a complete game shutout while allowing just one hit in the top of the second inning.
 
WHO STOOD OUT
Randi Rupp / P / Sophomore / Mont Belvieu, Texas
Rupp improved to 23-10 on the year after pitching five complete innings for Texas State. Rupp allowed just one hit in the ball game. She finished the night with eight strikeouts to bring her season total to 274 with no walks allowed. Rupp faced the minimum number of batters possible after forcing a double play in the second inning.
 
Corrina Liscano / 3B / Junior / Pomona, Calif.
Liscano went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate. She reached base in all four at bats after getting hit in the fourth inning. Liscano matched her career-high with four RBIs, a total that she set in her Texas State debut back in February. In the fifth inning, Liscano hit her team-leading sixth home run. She scored two of the 12 Texas State runs and also finished with a career-high five assists at third base. She now has nine multi-hit games this season and three games with three hits.
 
Sara Rupp / C / Sophomore / Mont Belvieu, Texas
Rupp hit her first home run of the 2016 season in the top of the third inning to give Texas State a 3-0 lead. She drove in Taylor Webb who reached on a fielder's choice play for her first multi-RBI game of the season. Later in the game, she reached base again with a walk.
 
Taylor Webb / RF / Sophomore / Richmond, Texas
Webb finished Friday's game going 2-for-3 from the plate with two RBIs, a walk, and a team-high three runs scored. Webb hit her second home run of the year in the top of the fourth inning. She has now raised her batting average over .300 to lead Texas State.

  • Top 1st – After Kelli Baker and Kimberlin Naivar walked to lead-off the game on eight straight pitches, Ariel Ortiz advanced the runners to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. Corrina Liscano stepped up to the plate and singled through the left side to score Baker. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 3 left on base)
  • Top 3rd – Liscano led the inning off with her second hit of the game before getting out at second on a fielder's choice play. With Taylor Webb on first, Sara Rupp hit her first home run of the season to give Texas State a 3-0 lead. (2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
  • Top 4th – Home runs by Ortiz and Webb accounted for all three runs scored in the third inning. Webb's was a two-run home run that scored Liscano. (3 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
  • Top 5th – Texas State used seven hits to score six runs in the fifth. Bianca Prado led the inning off with an infield single before scoring on Baker's double to left center. With runners on second and third and one out, Liscano launched her team-leading sixth home run of the season to make it 10-0 in favor of the Bobcats. Texas State then strung together four more consecutive hits to score two more runs including RBI singles from Ashley Wright and Alex Cruz. (6 runs, 7 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
 
NOTES
  • Sara Rupp's home run in the third inning was her first this season.
  • Rupp's home run in the third was the first Bobcat home run since Kendall Wiley hit one against UL Lafayette on April 2.
  • Texas State hit four home runs which topped the previous season-high total of three set against USF.
  • The last time that Texas State hit four home runs in a game was against UL Lafayette at home on March 28, 2015. The last time that the Bobcats hit four home runs on the road was against UL Monroe on March 23, 2015.
  • Ashley Wright and Alex Cruz each recorded hits as pinch hitters in the top of the fifth inning. It was Wright's first hit this season.
  • The 12 Bobcat hits are a season-high, topping the previous total of 10 set five times.
  • This was the third time this season that the Bobcats have scored in double figures. The only other game that Texas State had more runs was in the season opener against Abilene Christian (13).
