Softball Run-Rules Troy To Win Conference Series

TROY, Ala. – The Texas State softball team picked up the series victory after defeating the Troy Trojans by a score of 8-0 Sunday afternoon. The 'Cats spread out their runs by scoring two in the first, one in the third and fourth, and four in the fifth to pull away with the victory.

The Bobcats improve to 27-16 on the year and 6-9 in Sun Belt Conference play.

Texas State scattered 10 hits on Sunday including multi-hit days from Taylor Webb, Kendall Wiley, and Corrina Liscano. Coming into the fifth inning with a 4-0 lead, Texas State scored four more to put the game out of reach. The Trojans registered two hits in the bottom of the fifth to try and rally, but a strikeout for out number three by Randi Rupp ended Troy's hope of a late inning comeback.

The Bobcats have three more conference series' remaining including home weekends against South Alabama and UT Arlington.

WHO STOOD OUT
Corrina Liscano / 3B / Junior / Pomona, Calif.
Liscano went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Her three hits matched a career-high set against Abilene Christian on Feb. 14. After a perfect day at the plate, Liscano has raised her batting average to .300.

Randi Rupp / P / Sophomore / Mont Belvieu, Texas
Rupp threw her fifth solo shutout of the season in 5.0 innings of work for Texas State. She struck out nine to bring her season total up to 234. Rupp now has 13 complete games this season as she improves her record to 19-8 overall. She also lowers her season ERA to 1.74. This week, Rupp went a perfect 3-0 this week with 16.1 innings without an earned run and just seven hits allowed.

Taylor Webb / RF / Sophomore / Richmond, Texas
Webb recorded a hit in all three games this weekend including a 2-for-3 effort from the plate today with three RBIs. Game two yesterday and the game today mark the first two games of Webb's career where she had recorded back-to-back multi-hit games. Her three RBIs today also matched a career-high set against Texas earlier this season.

Kendall Wiley / 1B / Senior / Austin, Texas
Wiley was one of three Bobcats to register multiple hits on Sunday. She finished the day going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. In the top of the fifth inning, Wiley was the eighth run of the day to score for Texas State as she stole home when Kelli Baker got into a run down.

SCORING
  • Top 1st – Kelli Baker led the inning off with a six-pitch walk before being replaced at first on a fielder's choice hit by Kimberlin Naivar. Back-to-back singles by Ariel Ortiz and Corrina Liscano loaded the bases with one out for Taylor Webb. Webb proceeded to knock a two-run single to right center field to give Texas State the early 2-0 lead. (2 runs, 3, hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
  • Top 3rd – Naivar led off the inning with an infield single and with one outs, she stole second. Liscano then registered her second hit of the day, a double down the left field line, to score Naivar and to give Texas State a 3-0 lead. (1 run, 3 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
  • Top 4th – The Bobcats had runners on first and third after Kendall Wiley led the inning off with a single to left center and Kelli Baker reached on a fielder's choice. With Baker at first, she went to steal second and forced the defense into a run down. At that point, Wiley stole home and the throw home to try and get Wiley out was wild. Baker ended the inning at third. (1 run, 1 hit, 1 error, 1 left on base)
  • Top 5th - A walk by Ortiz and back-to-back singles by Liscano and Webb scored the first run of the inning. With runners on first and second and one out, Wiley singled up the middle to score Liscano. Back-to-back walks by Alex Cruz and Bianca Prado brought in the third run of the inning. The bases remained loaded for Baker who scored Wiley on a sacrifice fly. (4 runs, 3 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
