SAN MARCOS, Texas – Senior forward
Cameron Naylor recorded his first double-double of the season and second of his career with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the Texas State men's basketball team's 76-57 loss to UL Monroe Thursday night in Strahan Coliseum.
Â
The Bobcats drop to 10-13 overall and 4-10 in the Sun Belt Conference while the Warhawks are now 14-12 on the season and 10-5 in conference play.
Â
Along with Naylor,
Emani Gant and
Ethan Montalvo both reached double figures as well with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Gant finished 5-of-11 from the field and Montalvo was 3-for-5, all coming from beyond the arc, while they both converted 4-of-5 free throw attempts.
Â
Off the bench,
Anthony Roberson grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots. Gant also rejected two ULM shots, giving him 49 in his career which ranks 10th in program history.
Â
A turnaround jumper by Gant tied the game 4-4 with almost three minutes off the clock. The Warhawks then went on a 20-2 run with the only points for the Bobcats coming on two free throws courtesy of Montalvo.
Â
Naylor ended the visitor's scoring run by slashing down the baseline for a layup.
K.J. Malveau then hit a triple after
Bobby Conley forced a turnover. A jumper from Gant extended Texas State's scoring streak to seven straight before ULM found the bottom of the basket. A put back dunk from Naylor followed to cut the deficit back to 11, 26-15, with 5:13 on the clock.
Â
Montalvo nailed a three-pointer at the 2:05 mark that ended up being the last basket for the Bobcats in the half. The final seven points went to the Warhawks to take a 39-20 lead into halftime.
Â
An 8-0 run began for Texas State when Montalvo hit his second triple of the game at the 18:01 mark of second half to pull within 15. That would be as close as the Bobcats would get as ULM eventually extended its advantage to 26, 69-43, with a little over seven minutes to play.
Â
Courtney Julien made his first three-pointer in league action with 1:13 remaining for the Cats' final points of the game.
Â
Texas State closes out its homestand Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against UL Lafayette.
