MONROE, La. – Looking to rebound from a rough game on Thursday, the Texas State men's basketball team heads to northern Louisiana to face UL Monroe at 2 p.m. Saturday in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
The Bobcats (9-8, 3-5 SBC) have split the four meetings with Warhawks (9-11, 5-4 SBC) since joining the Sun Belt Conference. Last season saw ULM win both meetings by three points. All-time, the Warhawks have a 24-18 advantage with 37 of the games coming when both programs were members of the Southland Conference.
Emani Gant leads Texas State with 13.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury contributes 12.8 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.2 apg and 1.2 spg. The third Bobcat to average double digits is
Ethan Montalvo at 10.9 ppg.
In his last two games,
Ojai Black has dished out 13 assists and committed one turnover which was a charge at UL Lafayette. His last two games has increased his assist average to 3.2 per contest and he ranks fifth in the conference with a 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio. The senior point guard also leads the team with 1.5 steals per game and adds 7.1 ppg.
ULM is playing its fourth straight home game and have won all eight games in Fant-Ewing Coliseum this season. On Thursday, the Warhawks defeated UT Arlington 99-88 behind 15 three-pointers.
Most of the game will see ULM's starting five on the court led by 35.3 minutes per game from Majok Deng. He also paces the squad in scoring (19.9), rebounds (7.1), blocks (27) and free throw percentage (82.4). Deng enters the game shooting 50.2 percent from the field and has made 35 three-pointers.
Justin Roberson contributes 12.9 ppg and has totaled a team best 34 steals. Nick Coppola has made 30 of his 70 field goals from long distance and is third in the SBC with 5.1 apg. Also adding 9.1 ppg are Travis Munnings and Jamaal Samuel.
Typically the first player off the bench is DeMondre Harvey. He plays just over 19 minutes per contest and has made six starts. The senior forward has posted 6.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest with 56.0 field goal percentage.
