SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's basketball team suffered its first setback at home during the 2015-16 season Saturday afternoon with a 74-59 loss to Arkansas State, the first-place team in the Sun Belt Conference.
Â
How It Happened:The flow of the game between the Bobcats and the Red Wolves started off rather balanced, as neither team built more than a four-point lead in the first eight minutes of action. Taeler Deer followed up by a steal by
Toshua Leavitt and back-to-back 3's by
Kaitlin Walla ignited an 8-0 Texas State run to come within 10, 67-57, of Arkansas State with 4:56 left in the game. That proved to be as close as the Bobcats comeback would come as Arkansas State answered a jumper by Aundrea Gamble and a free throw by Amanda Lawson to back up 13.
Â
The Bobcats shot better from the floor, 46.2 to 40.8 percent, than the Red Wolves, but were outrebounded 42-28. The 'Cats also hit 10 3-pointers on the day, making that the fifth time this season with at least 10 3's in a game.
