TROY, Ala. – The fifth-ranked scoring offense in the nation proved to be too much to overcome Saturday afternoon as the Texas State women's basketball team fell 112-79 to Troy at Trojan Arena.
Kiani Lurry scored 24 points, her second 20+ point contest of the season, to lead the Bobcats Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened:Kaitlin Walla drained her first three in three games to open up the contest for Texas State to take an early 3-0 lead. The Trojans proceeded to answer with a 6-0 run to take over the lead for the first and final time with 7:41 to play in the first.
Despite going down by five with under five remaining in the first, the Bobcats rallied to come within two, 12-10, with 1:37 on the clock capped with a lay-up by
Kiani Lurry. The Trojans pushed once again with its up-tempo offense to close out the first period on an 8-3 run.
After a 3-pointer by
Ayriel Anderson that cut the Trojan lead to five with 6:20 to play in the second, Troy went on to produce a 17-2 run over the next three minutes to go up 20 on the visiting Bobcats. That Trojan lead would remain at 20 as time expired in the first half.
The Trojans came out of the locker room with an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 28 with 7:33 to play in the third.
An 11-4 run by Texas State ignited by back-to-back baskets by
Taeler Deer cut the Trojan lead to 22. That run was answered, however, by Troy as it closed out the final three minutes of the period on a 10-4 run.
The Trojans continued to build upon their lead in the fourth to go on and score its sixth 100+ point contest this season.
Texas State returned to its former self from beyond the arc by going 8-for 20 (40.0 percent) for the game, marking the ninth time this season the Bobcats have made at least eight 3's in a game. The Bobcats snagged 43 rebounds to outrebound the Trojans by six. Troy finished the contest shooting 57.1 percent from the floor. Both teams finished 19-for-28 from the charity stripe.

What It Means:The Bobcats fall to 8-7 on the year and 3-2 in Sun Belt Conference play. The loss today marked the first loss at Trojan Arena for Texas State. Texas State will now return home where the Bobcats are a perfect 6-0.
