Men’s Basketball End Road Swing Saturday at Troy

TROY, Ala. – The three-game road swing for the Texas State men's basketball team concludes Saturday against Troy at 4:15 p.m. in the Trojan Arena.
 
After the 11-point victory Thursday at South Alabama, the Bobcats are 8-5 on the season and 2-2 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Trojans, 5-11 overall and 0-5 in conference play, enter the game on a six game losing streak.
 
Last season Texas State won both meetings to take a 3-2 lead in the all-time series. The two teams split the season series in the Bobcats first year in the Sun Belt. In the first meeting, the Trojans came out on top 85-52 during the Ball State Invitational on Nov. 29, 1996.
 
Emani Gant improved his scoring and rebounding averages to 15.1 and 7.6, respectively, after recording the first 20-10 game by a Bobcat in three seasons. Adding 12.4 ppg and 4.8 rpg is Kavin Gilder-Tilbury.
 
Road games in the state of Alabama have seen Ethan Montalvo flourish. The Omaha, Nebraska native is averaging 17.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in three games. In those contests, 14 of his 17 made baskets have been three-pointers.
 
Anthony Roberson sports a team-high 37 offensive rebounds and 11 blocks. Ojai Black is dishing out a team-high 2.6 assists per game and has 18 steals, five coming in league action.
 
Texas State is sixth in the nation at 60.3 points per contest. The Bobcats are in the top 25 in fewest turnovers (22nd, 172), turnovers forced per game (12th, 17.00) and turnover margin (17th, +3.8).
 
Leading the Trojans is Wesley Person at 17.0 ppg, 82.5 free throw percentage and 34.9 minutes per contest. He is making 43.6 percent of his shots with 49 of his 88 made field goals coming from beyond the arc.
 
Jordon Varnado, the younger brother of NCAA career blocked shot holder Jarvis Varando, enters the game having posted 16.6 ppg and a team-high 8.1 rpg. Also with a double-digit point average is Jeremy Hollimon at 11.8.
 
Along with the trio, Daniel Peace and John Walton III have started every game this season. Peace is fifth in the SBC with 3.6 apg and fourth with 1.8 spg. Walton III contributes 8.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
