Bobcats Host Defending SBC Champions Georgia State Saturday

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team aims for its best start in 23 years Saturday against Georgia State in Strahan Coliseum. Tip is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. against the two-time defending Sun Belt Conference champions.
 
Entering the game, the Bobcats are 7-3 overall and 1-0 in conference play after defeating Georgia Southern for the first time ever Wednesday night. The Panthers sport an identical season record of 7-3 but are 0-1 in the league following a 15-point defeat at UT Arlington.
 
Saturday will be the seventh meeting ever between Texas State and Georgia State. The programs have split the previous meetings. Last year the road team won each game with the Bobcats' victory coming in double overtime
 
Heading into Saturday, Emani Gant has scored at least 10 points in 10 consecutive games dating back to last season. He leads Texas State with 15.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game along with a 51.6 field goal percentage.
 
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury contributes 12.2 ppg, 4.8 rpg and 2.3 apg. Following his season high performance on Wednesday, Ethan Montalvo increased his scoring average to 10.1 points per contest and free throw percentage to a SBC best 91.7 percent.
 
On the glass, Anthony Roberson has been dominate on both ends of the court. The junior forward nearly has an even split of his 60 total rebounds with 31 coming on the offensive glass. He shares the team lea of nine blocks with fellow classmate Kendell Ramlal.
 
Pacing GSU in points (14.3), rebounds (4.7) and steals (1.6) per contest is Jeremy Hollowell. He is making 44.8 percent of his shots and 78.0 percent at the charity stripe. Also averaging double figures in scoring is Kevin Ware, who plays 36.1 minutes per game, at 13.2 ppg.
 
Jeff Thomas is coming off a hot shooting night from long distance. He made 7-of-12 three-point attempts against the Mavericks coming off the bench. For the season, the redshirt freshman has made 18 treys with 15 coming in the past five games.
