SAN MARCOS, Texas – The No. 3 seeded Texas State softball team fell Wednesday evening in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships to No. 6 UL Monroe by a score of 3-0 at the Bobcat Softball Stadium. Texas State finishes the 2015 season with a 32-21 overall record.
Â
Kimberlin Naivar led the bottom of the seventh inning off with a double to right center, but defensive stops and a strikeout by the Warhawks stopped the Bobcats attempt at late inning heroics. Â
Â
Taylor Webb recorded the first Bobcat hit of the day in the bottom of the second with a single to center. Naivar then made her way on by way of a walk to put runners on first and second, but a fly out to end the inning halted the Bobcats chances at getting on the board in the second.
Â
In the top of the fourth, the Warhawks struck first to take a 1-0 lead over the Bobcats. A double combined with a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly scored the run for UL Monroe.
Â
Back-to-back defensive miscues in the top of the seventh granted UL Monroe two more insurance runs over the Bobcats.
Â
Randi Rupp finished the season with a 24-14 overall record and a conference-high 293 strikeouts after fanning nine Wednesday evening. She allowed just four hits and two walks in the defeat.
Â
The 2015 Bobcats finished the season tying the program-high of 59 home runs set back in 2003. The Texas State lineup also set a program-high in batting average with a mark of .290.
