SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team suffered a 10-2 setback Friday evening against No. 25 Texas at the Bobcat Softball Stadium. Texas State was limited to just one hit in the five inning contest while the Longhorns scattered 12 throughout the game.
Â
Friday's contest did mark the second largest crowd ever at the renovated Bobcat Softball Stadium, with 986 in attendance. The largest crowd was on February 18, 2009 against No. 15 Texas A&M, the day that the new stadium opened.
Â
The Bobcats fall to 22-16 overall with one more regular season contest on the docket against Texas on Saturday.
Â
Kendall Wiley recorded the only hit and one of the two Bobcat runs in the contest as she launched her ninth home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning. Wiley has now hit 15 home runs in her career, a mark that ranks her just outside of the top-10 in school history. One more and she will move onto the list.
Â
Texas jumped out to an early lead over the Bobcats, hitting a home run in the first at bat of the contest. The Longhorns would go on to put four on the board on five total hits.
Â
The Longhorns would go on to add three in the second, two in the third, and one in the fifth to build an eight-run lead over Texas State over the course of the five innings.
Â
Randi Rupp fell to 16-10 overall. She fanned one in five innings of work in the circle.
