MONROE, La. – The Texas State men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 56-53 loss to ULM on Saturday afternoon at Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, La. The Bobcats end the regular season at 13-16 overall and 7-13 overall.Â
The Bobcats opened up the second half on an 11-2 run to take a 37-29 lead. Kavin Gilder-Tilbury attacked the basket to give the team the lead and then got free throws to extend it. Defense aided the effort as the Warhawks began the half just 1-of-7. The lead ballooned to as much as 41-29 before ULM made a run.Â
ULM went on a 17-4 run to take a 46-45 lead. Wes Davis then checked into the game and hit a jumper in the lane to give the Bobcats a 47-46 lead. The two teams traded baskets until Nick Coppola for ULM hit a left-wing three-pointer to give the Warhawks a 51-49 advantage, and they never looked back.Â
Texas State struggled offensively for much of the first half Tilbury, heated up towards the end. He hit back-to-back threes from the left wing, propelling the Bobcats to go on a 9-2 run and go from a 25-17 deficit to just 27-26 at the break.Â
Gilder-Tilbury finished the game with a team-high 16 points and added eight rebounds. He has now scored in double digits in each of his last four games, the first time in his career.Â
Texas State will next begin the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Thursday in the No. 5-8 game against UT Arlington at 5:00 p.m. Thursday's game will be broadcasted on ESPN 3 and the radio broadcast can be heard on 89.9 FM KTSW, as well as www.txstatebobcats.com/radio.
