SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State softball team fell Sunday afternoon to the No. 8 UL Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns by a score of 4-0 at the Bobcat Softball Stadium. Texas State finished the weekend with a 1-2 overall record after defeating the Cajuns in game one of the three game series.

Texas State falls to 21-15 overall and 6-5 in Sun Belt Conference play.

The Ragin' Cajuns picked up where they left off on Saturday with a pair of home runs in the first to take an early 2-0 lead over the Bobcats.

Ariel Ortiz jump started the Bobcats in the first with a single to right field and Courtney Harris moved her to third on a throwing error by the third baseman, but a pair of strikeouts by the UL Lafayette pitcher sent Texas State back out on defense down 2-0.

Scoring then halted altogether as the teams proceeded to play five scoreless innings until the Ragin' Cajun offense stuck again in the top of the seventh. UL Lafayette finished the top of the seventh with two runs added to the board to take a 4-0 lead over the Bobcats.

With two outs and no one on base, sophomore left fielder Lexi Fryar hit a bloop single to right field that resulted in two bases after a fielding error by the right fielder.

The Texas State offense produced three hits by Fryar, Harris and Ortiz and ended the day with six runners left on base. Rupp was handed the loss as she falls to 15-9 overall. The Mont Belvieu, Texas native fanned five batters to bring her season total to a conference-high 192.

Texas State will be back in action at the Bobcat Softball Stadium on Wednesday with a non-conference single game against Incarnate Word. First pitch against the Cardinals is scheduled for 6 p.m. and live stats, live audio, and live video will be available at www.txstatebobcats.com.
