NEW ORLEANS – The Texas State men's basketball team looks to advance to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Friday night when it takes on UL Lafayette at 5 p.m., on ESPN 3. The Bobcats are looking to avenge a regular season sweep for the second straight game, after beating UT Arlington, Thursday night, which defeated Texas State in the previous two meetings.
The Bobcats had four players score in double figures on Thursday night in the 68-62 win over the Mavericks. Emani Gant scored a team-high 19 points and Cameron Naylor had eight straight points to help the team pull away from UTA at the end.
Wes Davis, who was one of the four players in double figures Thursday night, enters the game just three steals away from tying the Texas State career record. He comes into the game with 189 career steals after having four again the Mavericks. For the season, Wes has 55, third most in the Sun Belt and fifth most in a single season at Texas State.
Scouting UL Lafayette
UL Lafayette enters the game as the No. 4 seed. The Ragin Cajuns have won six in a row and feature All Sun Belt Conference First-Team player Shawn Long. Long is averaging 17.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Freshman guard Jay Wright has averaged 10.0 points per game and 8.0 assists per game against the Bobcats in the two meetings this year.
