SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team plays its final two home regular season games of the season, beginning Thursday when it takes on Troy at 7:30 p.m., in Strahan Coliseum. The Bobcats are battling Troy for one of the final spots in the Sun Belt Tournament.
Texas State is currently tied for the eighth and final spot with Arkansas State at 5-11. Troy is a half-game behind the Bobcats at 5-12 with the Bobcats currently owning a partial tiebreaker due to the 57-46 victory in the first conference game of the season on Dec. 30.
Texas State went on a 23-0 run during that first meeting, in which it held Troy scoreless for the final 11:30 of the first half. Ethan Montalvo had his best game as a Bobcat, going 6-of-10 from three-point range for a career-high 20 points.
Scouting Troy
Troy is led by guard Musa Abdul-Aleem, who is averaging 15.2 points per game. He and Wesley Person are the two Trojans who have made 59 or more three-pointers this season. Person has made 69 to lead the team. His average of 2.6 made three-pointers per game ranks third in the nation among freshmen and 48th overall.
Kevin Thomas is the top offensive rebounder in the conference with 92 offensive boards per game and is averaging 8.2 rebounds overall.
