Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cajuns Best Bobcats 64-42

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Texas State men's basketball team dropped its second meeting of the year to UL Lafayette, 64-42, Thursday night at the Cajundome in Lafayette, La.

Texas State got off to a good start, as Cameron Naylor was able to hit the mid range jumper to account for four early points and the Bobcats were up 8-2 in the first four minutes. He hit another jumper a few minutes later to make it a 14-9 Texas State advantage, giving him six points in the first half.

UL Lafayette responded strongly going on a 16-4 run to take a 25-18 lead. During that stretch Shawn Long took over, finishing with 11 points and five rebounds in the first 20 minutes. The Ragin Cajuns kept the Bobcats at bay and took a 30-20 lead into halftime.

One of the most memorable moments of the game occurred in the first half as a fracas ensued when JaMarcus Weatherspoon stole the ball and drove the other way. A foul was called on the Cajuns and UL Lafayette coach Bob Marlin reacted strongly, as he had to be restrained by his assistants and a police officer. Ultimately, only a bench warning was called and the Cajuns were able to withstand what appeared to be a potential momentum shift.

Coming out of halftime UL Lafayette took control of the game for good, going on a 14-4 run to take a 44-24 lead. Texas State tried to battle back, getting as close as 51-36 before the Cajuns restretched their lead for good.

Naylor finished as the team's leading scorer with 14 points. He also chipped in seven rebounds, second most on the team.

Texas State will now have a week off before returning to action on Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m., against Troy.
