Texas State Travels to Face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday Night

SAN MARCOS, Texas – It will be a homecoming for Texas State head men's basketball coach Danny Kaspar this weekend as he returns to Corpus Christi, Texas where he grew up. He helms the Bobcats against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday at 7 p.m. in the American Bank Center.
 
The contest will be broadcast on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel throughout the Lone Star state in HD on Channel 323. Tom Franklin has the call and Neal Raphael will provide color commentary.
 
Texas State, winners of their last two, heads into the game with a 3-1 record while the Islanders are 5-2 and are on a four-game winning streak.
 
Entering the game, Emani Gant leads the team with 13.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Second on the team with 12.5 ppg and 2.8 apg is Kavin Gilder-Tilbury. Cameron Naylor is also scoring in double-figures at 12.0 points per contest.
 
Sophomore Anthony Roberson is 10th in the Sun Belt Conference at 6.7 rpg. He has contributed 9.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg with a 53.3 field goal percentage the past two games, both of which saw him in the starting lineup.
 
Currently second in the conference making 63.0 percent of his shots is Ojai Black. He also sports a team best 3.3 assists per contest.
 
After tying the school record for steals in a game against I-35 rival UTSA, Ethan Montalvo upped his average to 2.3 per game. The Omaha, Nebraska native is also long distance threat for the Bobcats having made eight treys with a 47.1 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
 
Rashawn Thomas paces TAMUCC in points (14.1), rebounds (7.4), blocks (2.6) and field goal percentage (52.4). Brandon Pye has made 18 threes this year and averages 13.0 ppg. Contributing 11.4 ppg and 6.9 rpg is Bryce Douvier.
 
Point guard Hameed Ali has dished out 34 assists and leads the Islanders with 21 steals. Although he is struggling from the field (28.4 percent), the redshirt senior is in the top five of the Southland Conference with a 91.3 charity stripe percentage.
 
The Bobcats have an 11-9 advantage in the all-time series and have won three of the last four meetings. Feb. 15, 2012 was the last time the two programs meet with Texas State coming out on top 79-61 at home. From 2006-12, the teams were both members of the Southland Conference.
