PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Heading into Wednesday's game the Texas State men's basketball team knew they would face a tough task on the road against Prairie View A&M. Add on a 30 minute delay because of a clock malfunction and it could have been a rough night for the Bobcats. However, an early run and big performances from
Emani Gant and
Ethan Montalvo propelled Texas State to 62-44 victory over Prairie View A&M in W.J. Nicks Arena.

TXST improved to 5-2 and earned its second road win of the year. PVAMU dropped its home opener to remain winless at 0-10.

Montalvo scored a season-high 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting with two three-pointers and made all four of his free throw attempts. The senior guard also added three rebounds, two steals and an assist. Gant recorded his second double-double and sixth of his Bobcat career with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Recording a career-high 12 rebounds, five coming on the offensive glass, was
Anthony Roberson. He also recorded five points, two steals and a block.

Kavin Gilder-Tilbury dished out four assists and
Maljhum McCrea finished with two rejections to pace all players in each category.

A three-pointer from Montalvo opened the scoring in the game and propelled the Bobcats to a 16-2 advantage 7:28 into the game. During the run, Montalvo scored eight points and Gant tallied four.

PVAMU fought back to cut Texas State's lead to six after a trey from Tevin Bellinger at the 4:37 mark. Montalvo registered the final six points for the Bobcats as they took a 30-20 lead into the break.

The Panthers opened the second half with a 6-2 scoring burst to cut the Texas State advantage to six. A corresponding 12-2 run from the Bobcats propelled the team to a double-digit lead that they maintained for the rest of the game. Gilder-Tilbury added a layup with 22 seconds left for the final basket and give the Bobcats their largest lead of the game.

Next for Texas State is a 2,100 mile journey to take on Washington State at 8 p.m. CT on Friday. The game will be broadcast on the regional network Pac-12 Washington, channel 378 for Time Warner Cable subscribers.
