SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State hosts I-35 Maroon-Orange Rival UTSA Wednesday in Strahan Coliseum at 7 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel (Ch. 323) in Austin and San Antonio and on ESPN3 in the outside areas.
The Bobcats enter the game with a 2-1 record following a road victory at McNeese State on Saturday. Following three consecutive losses with the latest being a 90-85 setback to Division II Texas Permian Basin on Sunday, the Roadrunners are 1-6 this season.
Emani Gant leads Texas State with 12.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury has contributed 11.7 ppg and 5.3 rpg. Also heading into Wednesday with double-digit point averages is
Ojai Black (10.7),
Ethan Montalvo (10.0) and
Cameron Naylor (11.0).
Black has been credited with a team-high 10 assists and three steals this year. Defensively, five shots have been swatted by
Kendell Ramlal and Gant posted two blocks the two games he has played.
The Roadrunners (1-6) have scored 80 points in four straight contests and are led by Ryan Bowie's 20.6 ppg. He has paced the team in scoring in six games and is 12th in the nation with 144 points this year.
J.R. Harris is a scoring threat for the Roadrunner off the bench and from long distance. He is putting up 12.4 points per contest with 16 of his 29 made shots being three-pointers.
Wednesday's game will be the 57th meeting between the former Southland Conference and Western Athletic Conference foes. UTSA holds a 33-23 lead in the series and has won the last two matchups. The Bobcats last defeated the Roadrunners on Jan. 19, 2013 in overtime 81-78 in San Antonio. In Strahan Coliseum, Texas State has not been victorious since Feb. 26, 2011 (82-80).
