Weynand Leads with 12 Kills

LAFAYETTE, La. – Texas State continued the team's dominance against Louisiana teams this season with a sweep of UL Lafayette Saturday night, 25-22, 25-15, 25-19. The win pushes the Bobcats to 17-11 overall and 12-3 in Sun Belt Conference action. Texas State currently sits in third place in the SBC.

Kelsey Weynand led the Bobcats with 12 kills. She only committed one error for an outstanding hitting percentage of .440 in the match. She wasn't the only one, though, as three more Bobcats hit .400 or higher to help Texas State to a team hitting percentage of .346 to just a .167 for UL Lafayette.

Behind Weynand, Madison Daigle hit .412 with nine kills while Jordan Kohl finished with seven kills on a .467 hitting percentage. She did not have an error in the match. Middle blocker Lauren Kirch added five kills with a .625 hitting percentage.

She added nine digs while defensive specialist Ali Hubicsak finished with eight digs. The team leader, however, was Shelby Vas Matt with 11 digs.

The Bobcats finished with 10 blocks to just four for the Ragin' Cajuns. Leading the way at the net was Daigle with six blocks to pace Texas State. Morgan Lewis added three blocks with a solo and two block assists. Four others had two blocks in the match.

The opening set was the most competitive frame for UL Lafayette against Texas State. The Bobcats, however, used a 5-1 run to break a 9-9 tie and claim a 14-10 lead. Those three points would be the difference in a 25-22 victory in the first set for the Bobcats.

Early in the second set, UL Lafayette used a 6-0 run to go from down, 3-2, to leading 8-3. Texas State, though, answered with an 8-1 run with two kills from Daigle, two blocks, a kill from Weynand and a service aces from Smith in the run.

Later, the Bobcats used a 9-1 run to gain control of the set, going from up 18-14, to a commanding 23-14 lead. After one point from the Ragin' Cajuns, Daigle and Hoppe teamed up for a block and Weynand put down a kill to clinch the set.

Texas State stayed hot in the third set with runs of four points, five points and a 7-1 run. With those, the Bobcats stayed in control throughout the set, hitting an outstanding .472 in the final set with 19 kills to just two errors on 36 attempts.
