WACO, Texas – Texas State found it tough sledding against Big 12 opponent Baylor on Friday night, falling 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-19). With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 11-9 on the season, but will look to improve on its 6-1 Sun Belt Conference record in the team's next match at UT Arlington at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night.
Kelsey Weynand played a strong match, leading Texas State in kills with eight while
Jordan Kohl contributed six more kills. At times, the Bobcats went to a 6-2 rotation that saw
Erin Hoppe give out 15 assists and
Emily Shelton finish with four more.
Weynand led the team in digs with seven, but
Brenna Lyles made her season debut in the third set and finished with six digs in the match. Both
Ali Hubicsak and Hoppe added five assists apiece.
Texas State did outblock Baylor, 5-3, Friday night with contributions from a number of players. Weynand,
Madison Daigle,
Lauren Kirch and
Ally Standard all finished with two block assists each.
Both Weynand and Kirch added a service ace for the Bobcats, but Baylor outserved Texas State, 9-2.
Texas State will stick to the road for the next four matches against Sun Belt Conference opponents UT Arlington, Arkansas State, Troy and South Alabama.
