The SeriesTexas State played two of this weekend's opponents in 2013, splitting against North Texas and UTSA. The Bobcats fell on the road to North Texas last season, but still hold an overwhelming advantage in the all-time record, 26-5-2. Against UTSA, the Bobcats put together an impressive victory on the road last year to win in five and add another victory in the 53-12 record Texas State owns in the I-35 Rivalry.
Â
The Bobcats played Wichita State back in 2012, and that was the only meeting to date between the teams. The Shockers secured a 3-0 sweep against Texas State. As for Abilene Christian, the Bobcats haven't faced the Wildcats since 1983, a 2-1 Texas State victory to cap an 11-0 record against ACU.
Â
On the ShockersWichita State is led by longtime coach Chris Lamb in his 15
th season. The Shockers currently stand at 1-2 but will play Baylor Thursday night so it will be a good barometer to see how Wichita State stacks up against the Bobcats. The team's two losses came to Kentucky and Virginia Tech, both 3-0 sweeps, but Wichita State beat Butler in five.
Â
On the Mean GreenNorth Texas comes into the tournament with the most impressive record in the field at 3-1, beating Northwestern State, Mississippi Valley State and Stephen F. Austin on the road so far this season. North Texas went five against Northwestern State but swept the other opponents in victories. The Mean Green did fall to SEC opponent Missouri in Denton, but pushed the Tigers to five.
Â
On the RoadrunnersThe Roadrunners traveled to Texas A&M for this season's opening weekend and walked away with two wins, including one over the Aggies. Texas A&M forced UTSA to five, but the Roadrunners came out on top and also beat Tulane, 3-1. The only loss for UTSA came against Iowa, a 3-1 defeat.
Â
On the WildcatsAbilene Christian enters this weekend's Delta Zeta Classic amid a four-match losing streak that actually extends to nine games with five consecutive losses to end last season. The Wildcats, however, are under new direction behind Head Coach Jason Bibler in his first season. So far, though, ACU has been swept by Baylor, Portland, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UT Arlington with the final loss coming at home.
Â
On the BobcatsTexas State is coming off a loss to Baylor in the midweek before the Delta Zeta Classic, but jumped out to an impressive 2-1 start at the Houston Cougar Classic.
Shelby Vas Matt has been on fire for Texas State, notching a double-double in every match played this season as she goes full rotation. Freshman
Lauren Kirch has also stood out as she leads the team in kills while junior libero
Sierra Smith paces the Bobcats in digs.
