San Marcos, Texas – Texas State travels to Houston for the opening weekend of the season at the Cougar Classic. The Bobcats will face Lamar and Wake Forest at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday and follow up against Houston at 11 a.m. Saturday.
 
The Bobcats have wins in the most recent meetings against Lamar and Houston, both coming at last season's Delta Zeta Classic, but Texas State hasn't faced Wake Forest in the team's history. Both wins against Lamar and Houston were impressive sweeps for the Bobcats in 2013.
 
Texas State has built an impressive 41-34 advantage all-time against Lamar and stand 10-29 against Houston. Against Lamar, the Bobcats have won three in a row and has beaten Houston both times in the last two meetings between the teams.
 
On Lamar
The Cardinals have a brand new coach in Alan Edwards. He is looking to rebuild a team that went 9-21 overall last season and finished with a record of 7-11 in the Southland Conference. The team finished its season with three consecutive losses.
 
On Wake Forest
Wake Forest's coach is also fairly new. Ken Murczek took over in 2013 and is entering his second season. In his first season he coached the team to a .500 finish at 16-16, but the Demon Deacons went just 5-15 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
 
On Houston
The Houston Cougars are coached by Kaddie Platt, who is in her third season at the helm. That means Texas State Head Coach Karen Chisum has 29 more seasons of experience with her current team than the three coaches she'll face do combined with their respective teams.
 
Houston will be the toughest competition for the Bobcats after going 18-15 last season and earning a winning record in conference action, going 10-8 in the American Athletic Conference.
 
What's Ahead
After this opening weekend, the Bobcats will come to Strahan Coliseum to host Baylor, a Big 12 opponent, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for the team's home opener. After that, the Bobcats will welcome Wichita State, UTSA, Abilene Christian and North Texas to San Marcos for the Delta Zeta Classic.
