Mobile, Ala. – The Texas State men's basketball team had its season end Saturday, falling to Troy 72-50, Saturday afternoon at Trojans Arena in Troy, Ala. With the loss, the Bobcats ended up two games out of the No. 8 seed, claimed by Troy for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
Troy used a pair of runs, going on a 17-3 run in the first half, to go up 21-14 and eventually held a 33-26 halftime advantage. The second run was a 13-2 run to open the second half, taking a 46-28 lead which the Bobcats could not answer.
For the Bobcats, Corey Stern and Kavin Gilder-Tilbury led the team with 10 points apiece. Victor Bermudez contributed to the cause with five points and three assists. Emani Gant was big inside, having a team-high seven rebounds and contributing two blocks and three assists.
Texas State's season ends with the Bobcats going 8-23 overall and 4-14 in Sun Belt play. The Bobcats graduate seniors Stern, Gordon Ball, Phil Hawkins, Reid Koenen and Joel Wright.
Returning for the Bobcats next year will be Wes Davis who is currently fourth on the all-time Texas State list in steals with 136. Emani Gant will return to the post as a junior, after averaging 8.9 points and 5.0 rebounds during his first season on campus.
