Men's Basketball Begins Final Road Stretch

Game Notes

San Marcos, Texas –
The Texas State men's basketball team owns its fate heading into the final two games of the regular season, both of which are on the road, beginning Thursday night at South Alabama at 7:00 p.m.. The Bobcats will finish the regular season at Troy on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Looking at the Bobcats

Texas State is coming off a 66-55 loss to Georgia State on Saturday at Strahan Coliseum. Phil Hawkins scored in double digits for the second time in his last three games. He scored 11 points against the Panthers after putting up 18 at Arkansas State two weeks ago.

Texas State is currently one game in back of No. 8 Troy in the Sun Belt standings. South Alabama is No. 10 in the standings and is the only team in the conference that has been eliminated. If the Bobcats win both games this week, they will clinch a spot in the Sun Belt Tournament, by virtue of having the tiebreaker over Troy.

Looking at the Jaguars

South Alabama has been eliminated from postseason contention this season. Playing under first-year head coach, the Jaguars have struggled to a 9-20 record.

One bright spot for USA is its senior forward Augustine Rubit. Rubit is averaging a team-best 17.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. He is the all-time active rebounding leader in the country with over 1,100 boards for his career.

Thursday's game can be heard on 89.9 FM KTSW in San Marcos as well as www.txstatebobcats.com.
