Atlanta, Ga. – The Texas State men's basketball team ran up against a buzz saw on Monday evening in Atlanta, falling to the first place team in the Sun Belt, Georgia State 68-41.
Texas State played impressive defense during the first 10 minutes of the game, holding Georgia State to just six points, as the Bobcats led 7-6 early on. Wes Davis had five of the team's first seven points.
Unfortunately the Texas State offense never did get in gear in the first half as Georgia State went on a 10-0 run to end the half and take a 28-14 lead at intermission. The Bobcats struggled from the field shooting 5-of-22 (23 percent).
Georgia State continued its torrid play coming out of halftime on a 24-4 run to extend the lead to 52-18. The Panthers were red hot from the field beginning 10-of-13 from the field in the second half.
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury and Victor Bermudez were the top scorers for the Bobcats, each finishing with seven points. Bermudez hit the final field goal for the team, with it coming at the buzzer.
