SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Eight straight points in the final 44 seconds by junior guard
Ayriel Anderson lifted the Texas State women's basketball team to a 57-53 victory over I-35 rival UTSA on Thursday evening. In the final moments of the game, the Bobcats found themselves down as many as seven before producing an 11-0 run to defeat the Roadrunners. The Bobcats improve to 3-3 on the year.
That 11-0 run was started by
Raven Burns who nailed a right corner three with 1:51 left on the clock.
Â
Then, with 1:01 remaining, the Roadrunners turned over the ball that ultimately resulted in an open look for Anderson on the left wing. The Irving, Texas native proceeded to nail the three-pointer to cut the Roadrunner lead to one.
Â
Five made free throws later by Anderson and a UTSA turnover sealed the deal for the Bobcat victory.
Â
For the entirety of the contest prior to Anderson's run, the Bobcats would play catch-up to the Roadrunners.
Â
After taking a four-point lead into the half, the Roadrunners opened the second half with an 8-0 run en route to their largest lead of the game. That lead proceeded to swell between two and 12 points until Anderson's three that cut the lead to one.
Â
Meghan Braeuer and
Erin Peoples continued to be strong offensive keys for the Bobcats as they each contributed 15 points in the victory. Braeuer finished the game shooting 4-of-8 from beyond the arc for Texas State while Peoples led the team with four steals.
Â
The Bobcats will now take 10 days off of competition before returning to Strahan Coliseum for a match-up against Texas A&M-Commerce on December 14 at 2 p.m. For more information regarding tickets, please contact the Texas State Athletic Ticket Office at 512-245-2272 or email at
