Bobcats Suffer Sweep by UALR

Smith leads team in digs with 10

SAN MARCOS – Texas State suffered just the fourth conference loss of the season Saturday night, falling to Sun Belt Conference leader UALR. The Trojans, undefeated in conference play, beat the Bobcats, 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-21), to drop Texas State's record to 17-11 overall and 12-4 in the SBC.

Kelsey Weynand led the Bobcats in kills with six while Alexandra Simms finished with five. Lauren Kirch, Amanda Watkins, Caylin Mahoney and Shelby Vas Matt added four kills each.

Mahoney continued to run the Texas State offense as she has the past two matches. She gave out 20 assists and finished with eight digs and a block in addition to her four kills. Sierra Smith led the team in digs with 10 while Brenna Lyles added nine more. Weynand finished with seven digs.

At the net, Watkins paced the Bobcats with four blocks. She was in on all but one of the team's five blocks on the night.

Unfortunately, UALR's offense was too tough for Texas State Saturday night. The Trojans came out in the first set and hit .423 with just two errors on 26 attempts, finishing with 13 kills in the opening frame. The Bobcats adjusted to force five errors from UALR in both the second and the third sets, bringing the team's hitting percentage down to .219 in the second set and .229 in the third.

Sonja Milanovic paced UALR with 16 kills while Edina Begic finished with 12 kills and 11 digs. Megan Mathis gave out 32 assists. Mathis and Edina Selimovic were each in on six blocks apiece.

Texas State will look to bounce back Friday when the Bobcats host Georgia State at 6:30 p.m. After that, Texas State will welcome Troy on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for the last home matches of the regular season. The Bobcats, however, will return home to host the Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament on Thanksgiving weekend.
