SAN ANTONIO – The Texas State men's basketball team dropped its first game of the season, 80-67 to UTSA, Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center in San Antonio.
The Bobcats jumped all over the Roadrunners early, getting out to a 27-11 lead. Emani Gant had the highlight of the half as he blocked a shot against the glass and then took it end to end before doing a eurostep to get around the UTSA defender and lay it in. Gant finished the first half with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block.
Texas State held the Roadrunners in check from the field, as they made just 3-of-14 to start the game. Towards the end of the half, UTSA would make a run to cut the Bobcats lead to six, but Emani Gant picked up his third steal of the half and went end-to-end for a layup as the Bobcats took a 40-33 lead into halftime.
UTSA made a run in the second half to take the lead, but Wes Davis would show up to respond for the Bobcats. First, Davis knifed through the lane and put down a monster dunk. Then he got a steal and had a reverse layup to put the Bobcats back in front 55-54.
The Roadrunners went in front for good due to a 17-4 run after Kendell Ramlal had thrown down a monster two-handed dunk which put the Bobcats up 64-63 at the time.
The Bobcats will now have a week off before their next game, a non-conference matchup with Howard Payne on Nov. 30, at 4 p.m., at Strahan Coliseum.
