Bobcats Overcome by UALR Second Half Surge

Little Rock, Ark. –
Texas State had a strong first half defensive effort but was overcome by UALR in the second half, 69-64, Thursday night at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock, Ark.

UALR went on a run after getting Joel Wright and Emani Gant in foul trouble. The Trojans were able to stretch its lead from 58-54 to 65-54 after Wright fouled out following his 10 point performance. UALR finished with 20 points in the paint in the second half and 24 for the game.

The Bobcats began the night red hot from the field, shooting 8-of-12 to begin the game as they raced out to a 19-14 lead. Gant had the strong hand early, scoring eight of the team's first 10 points. He finished the first half with 10 points.

After UALR countered the Bobcats' run with a run of their own to go up 22-19, Texas State would strike again. Reid Koenen scored five of his first half 10 points, as part of a 5-0 run to put the team up 24-22. The Bobcats stretched their lead even further, taking a 31-27 lead into halftime.

Coming out of halftime, Joel Wright asserted himself on the low block, scoring eight of the team's first 16 points in the second half and the two teams kept trading baskets as the game was tied at 47-47 with 11:19 to go.

Four Bobcats finished in double figures as Gant led the team with 16. Koenen had 13 and Wright and Corey Stern each had 10. Point guard Phil Hawkins led Texas State in rebounding, tying his career-high with six.

Texas State will return home on Saturday afternoon to take on Troy as part of a doubleheader. The women's game is at 2:00 p.m., and the men's game is at 4:30. The men's game can be heard on www.txstatebobcats.com and 89.9 FM KTSW. The game is also televised on the CW Austin, one of seven broadcasts this season.
