SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Volleyball announced itself as a threat in the Sun Belt Conference with a strong 2-0 start to conference play this weekend. After sweeping Louisiana Friday, the Bobcats came through with another impressive sweep of ULM, 25-19, 25-16, 25-14, on Sunday.

Shelby Vas Matt has seemed to save her best for the conference season with an outstanding 13-kill day. She only committed one error in 27 attacks for a .444 percentage to lead all players Sunday. She added four digs and a block.

Caylin Mahoney was able to spread the Texas State attack around.
Ashlee Hilbun tallied eight kills while Mahoney and
Alexandra Simms combined for 11 kills. Senior
Amari Deardorff added four
. Mahoney finished the day with a double-double, putting up 31 assists and 12 digs in addition to her six kills.

Sierra Smith cleaned the floor for the Bobcats, finishing with 13 digs for her fourth consecutive match in double-digit digs. At the net,
Molly Ahrens continues to lead the charge for the Bobcats. She finished with three block assists to lead the team Sunday.

The first set was a tight match until Texas State led, 19-18. The Bobcats went on a 6-1 run to close out the set for the early lead in the match. Hilbun tallied two kills in the run while Deardorff added one. ULM did the rest for Texas State with errors.

The Warhawks were able to keep the second set close until they tied it, 10-10. At that point, after a ULM error, Vas Matt followed with back-to-back kills for a 13-10 lead to force a ULM timeout. The Warhawks scored out of the timeout, but Texas State followed with three more points. Vas Matt tallied another kill sandwiched between ULM errors to give the Bobcats a 16-11 lead.

At 17-13, Texas State made another run, scoring four consecutive points to put the set out of reach, 21-13. After two ULM errors, Mahoney struck for back-to-back kills before the Warhawks could stop the run. At that point, the second set was nearly sewn up for the Bobcats.

Texas State really started to assert its dominance in the third set. After starting off with a 2-0 Texas State lead, ULM scored two points. From there, the Bobcats went on a 13-1 run that saw
Ali Hubicsak serve up nine consecutive points. Vas Matt put down three kills in the run while Mahoney added another one.

With the score 15-3, the Bobcats just leaned on the Warhawks on their way to their second consecutive sweep to start conference play.

The Bobcats will take to the road next for matches against defending Sun Belt Conference Champion Western Kentucky at 6 p.m. Friday and Georgia State at 12 p.m. Sunday.
