Game Notes
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State opens Sun Belt Conference play this weekend with matches against Louisiana-Lafayette at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Louisiana-Monroe at 1 p.m. Sunday. Both matches mark the first ever Sun Belt events in San Marcos for the Bobcats.
Â
Texas State's first competition of the weekend will be the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette. The two teams have only met four times, but Texas State owns all four wins with the most recent coming in 2011, a 3-1 victory over Lafayette.
Â
The Bobcats and Louisiana-Monroe have a much longer history with both teams competing in the Southland Conference from 1987-2005. The Warhawks were members of the Southland from 1982-2005 while Texas State joined the conference in 1987 until the school's recent departure from all Southland Conference competition after the 2011-12 season.
Â
With plenty of opportunities to play each other, Texas State owns a dominating advantage over the Warhawks, 32-2 all-time. The last victory for Texas State was a 3-0 sweep in August of 2008 while Louisiana-Monroe's only wins came in five-setters back on Nov. 11, 2005 and Oct. 11, 2002.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns and the Bobcats are jockeying for position atop the Sun Belt Conference with Louisiana-Lafayette currently sitting tied for first with Western Kentucky with matching 10-4 records and the Bobcats are just behind the top two teams at 10-5. With conference play starting this weekend, the cream should rise to the top in a hurry. Meanwhile, Louisiana-Monroe is currently last in the SBC with an overall record of 4-12.
Â
So far this season, Louisiana-Lafayette and Texas State have only shared one opponent, and that was the Houston Cougars. While Texas State promptly swept Houston on opening weekend, the Ragin' Cajuns fell to Houston, 3-1, on the second weekend of the season. The only shared opponent for the Bobcats and the Warhawks has been Prairie View A&M and both teams swept the Panthers.
