San Marcos, Texas – Texas State opens the 2013 season with the Delta Zeta Classic Volleyball Tournament. The Bobcats are hosting Lamar, SMU, Quinnipiac and Houston in the tournament and are set to play at 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Friday against Lamar and SMU respectively then at 12 p.m. Saturday vs. Quinnipiac. Texas State will close the tournament against Houston at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Head Coach Karen Chisum will start her 34^th season at the helm of the Bobcats and starts the year with 757 career victories. She is the most accomplished head coach in this weekend's tournament. Houston's Kaddie Platt and Kristopher Czaplinski of Quinnipiac are both in their second seasons. Justin Gilbert starts his eighth season at Lamar while SMU's Lisa Seifert begins her 18^th season with a record of 252-239.
 
Against the field, Texas State is 52-66, but hold a 40-34 advantage over Lamar and stand dead even all-time against SMU at 3-3. Houston owns the all-time series against the Bobcats with a 29-9 advantage, but Texas State won the last meeting with all three opponents, sweeping Lamar and SMU in 2012 and beating Houston 3-2 on Sept. 15, 2009. This will be the first meeting between Texas State and Quinnipiac.
 
As fans get to know the new squad, seniors Ashlee Hilbun, Amari Deardorff and Molly Ahrens should make familiar impacts. Juniors Caylin Mahoney and Alexandra Simms will also be big parts of the team as Mahoney takes over at setter and Simms is the leading returner in kills with 318 from last season. Ahrens led the team in blocks with 104 last year while Deardorff claimed the highest hitting percentage at .243. Of the returners, Hilbun had the most digs in 2012, finishing with 219, and Simms led the team in aces with 22.
