San Marcos, Texas – Texas State men's hoops will hit the road this weekend for a match up versus Lamar. The game is a part of the ESPN BracketBusters sponsored by Ramada. Tip-off at the Montagne Center is slated for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23.
Series
Saturday's matchup will be the 57th meeting between Texas State and Lamar. The Cardinals lead the all-time series, 29-27.
Scouting Texas State
Texas State is coming off a 73-62 loss to I-35 rival UTSA. The Bobcats will take a break from conference play to participate in their second ESPN BracketBuster game in as many years. Texas State defeated South Dakota last season 93-92 on the road. Joel Wright ranks second in the WAC in scoring with 17.2 ppg, and first in WAC-only games at 18.7 ppg. Matt Staff is second on the team in scoring with 10.9 points per game and a team-high 34 blocked shots.
Scouting Lamar
Lamar enters the weekend on a three-game losing streak. The Cardinals have captured only three wins this season. Its lone win at home was an 81-80 defeat over Long Island on Dec. 29. Only four of Lamar's 23 losses have been by 10 points or less. Stan Brown is the Cardinals top scorer with an average of 11.1 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game.
