Salt Lake City, Utah – Texas State cut the Utah lead to four points in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Utes were able to down the Bobcats 69-50, Thursday evening at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Wes Davis helped the Bobcats withstand an early Utah surge, scoring six of Texas State's first half points. Davis also helped the team stay in the game with his defense, collecting two steals and adding two assists in the first 20 minutes.
Right before halftime, Texas State had a five-point swing to go down just 31-22 at half. First, Phil Hawkins hit a left wing three and Corey Stern followed it up with a steal as time expired to prevent the Utes from scoring.
The Bobcats continued to give Utah trouble coming out of the half as they got the ball into Emani Gant against the zone defense and he laid it in to cut the Utes lead to 38-34.
Unfortunately for Texas State, Utah responded with a 17-4 run of its own to put its advantage back at 55-38.
Overall Gant led the Bobcats with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting. He had six rebounds, a block and a steal. Davis finished the game with seven points, three assists and four steals.
The Bobcats will now play four straight home games, beginning Saturday at 4:30 p.m., against UT Tyler.
