Bobcats Finish Runner-Up at Cure UCD Classic

Texas State finished its trip to Puerto Vallarta 2-1, following a 82-74 defeat to the Ohio Valley Conference's West Division preseason favorite, Southeast Missouri, Sunday afternoon at the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center.

Texas State traded buckets with SEMO during the first half, as Joel Wright scored seven of the team's first nine points. The Bobcats built up their largest lead of the game at 12-8 before the Redhawks battled back.

Freshman Kavin Gilder-Tilbury helped carry the team towards halftime, finishing with 10 first half points including two made three-pointers. He finished the game with 14 points overall. As a team, the Bobcats had four made three-pointers, helping to keep the pace with SEMO which had a 39-38 advantage in the first half.

The Redhawks started to pull away in the second half, shooting a red hot 68.2 percent (15-of-22) after intermission, outscoring the Bobcats 43-36. Overall Southeast Missouri shot 61.7 percent (29-of-47), led by senior point guard Lucas Nutt who had 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

The Bobcats claimed the Charlie Spoonhour Trophy as the runner-up in the UCD Classic with a record of 2-1. The team will return home to face Cedarville on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7:00 p.m., at Strahan Coliseum.
