Texas State Looks to Knock Off WKU, GSU

Game Notes

SAN MARCOS
, Texas – Texas State welcomes two very different teams for the final home weekend of the season. First, the Bobcats will host Sun Belt Conference leading Western Kentucky at 6 p.m. Friday and then will follow with a match against Georgia State at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for Senior Day.

The Bobcats swept Georgia State in the last meeting between the teams, but was swept by the Lady Toppers of Western Kentucky. Both matches came on the same road trip Oct. 4 and 6.

Both teams are coming in hot with Western Kentucky on a four-match winning streak and Georgia State on a three-match streak of their own. The Lady Toppers are even hotter than their latest streak would reveal. Western Kentucky has won 14 of the team's last 15 matches so the work will be cut out for the Bobcats.

However, the one loss Western Kentucky did suffer came at the hands of Louisiana, a 5-6 team in conference play. The Bobcats swept the Ragin' Cajuns in their only meeting to date.

While Western Kentucky will be a confident bunch, Georgia State should be too. The Panthers received a boost when their best setters just re-entered the lineup. But while Georgia State has won its last three, the Panthers have lost seven of their last eight road matches.

As the end of the season nears, every match gains importance. The Bobcats are only 3.5 matches behind Western Kentucky, two behind UALR and one behind UTA in the conference standings. If the Bobcats can get hot late and gain momentum heading into the conference tournament, the Sun Belt will have to watch out.
