San Marcos, Texas – It was tough sledding, Saturday, but the Texas State football team was able to impose its will when it needed to, coming away with a 24-17 win against Georgia State at Bobcat Stadium. The win moves the Bobcats' record to 4-3 overall this year.
Chris Nutall got the Bobcats on the board midway towards the end of the first quarter, breaking off a 34-yard run, and going through numerous arm tackles on his way to the end zone. The score, Nutall's fifth of the year, tied the game at 7-7
In the second half, the Bobcats ran over and through the Panthers en route to a 300-yard rushing day as a team. In addition to Nutall's 34-yard touchdown run, he also added a 35-yard run in the fourth quarter to set up his second TD run of the day, a three-yard scamper to put the Bobcats up 17-10.
Robert Lowe capped off a career-day finishing with 177 yards on the ground, with a one-yard plunge to give Texas State the 24-10 lead with just under two minutes to go in the game. The Bobcats finished the game the right way, with 68 of its season-high 296 rushing yards coming in the fourth quarter.
Defensively, the team held strong for the second straight week, limiting Georgia State to just 17 points, seven of which came on the opening drive. The Bobcats held the Panthers to 4-of-15 on third down, forcing the team to punt seven times on the night.
Texas State will cap its current three-game homestand next Saturday on homecoming against South Alabama. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m., and the game will be televised on ESPN 3.
