Game Notes

San Marcos, Texas The Texas State men's basketball team will make its first WAC road trip to Denver and New Mexico State. The Bobcats will play at Denver on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 8 p.m. CT. Saturday's tip at New Mexico State is slated for 8 p.m. CT.

Series

This will be the first meeting against Denver and the second meeting versus New Mexico State.

Scouting Texas State

Texas State is in search of its first WAC win after falling to both San Jose State and Utah State at home. The Bobcats are 0-3 on the road so far this season, as it will travel to Denver and then New Mexico State. Joel Wright ranks in the top five in the league in scoring with 15.6 points per game. He also ranks in the top 10 in rebounds with 6.8 boards per game.

Scouting Denver

Denver is on a one-game win streak after defeating UT Arlington on the road, 50-35. The Pioneers are 1-1 in WAC play, losing to Louisiana Tech on the road. Denver is 4-2 at home this season. The Pioneers suffered home losses to California (L, 72-61) and Colorado State (L, 60-53). Denver has a pair of players averaging double figures in scoring. Royce O'Neale leads the Pioneer offense with an average of 14.2 ppg, in addition to 5.0 rpg. Head coach Joe Scott is in his sixth season at the helm of the Pioneer program. He holds an overall record of 80-74.

Scouting New Mexico State

New Mexico State is on a two-game losing streak, after dropping games to UT Arlington (L, 68-47) and Louisiana Tech (L, 81-72) on the road. The Aggies post a 5-1 home record. Their only loss is a 68-63 defeat by New Mexico on Dec. 19. New Mexico State is led by Daniel Mullings, a senior from Ontario, Canada. Mullings is averaging 14.6 ppg and 5.4 rpg. Tyron Watson averages 10.4 ppg for the Aggies, and 5.4 ppg, as well. Head coach Marvin Menzies is in his fifth year with the program. His Aggie record stands at 102-68.
