Waco, Texas –
The Bobcats continued to comeback throughout Tuesday's match against Baylor, but the Bears proved to be too much as Texas State had its four-match winning streak snapped with a 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-13) loss at the Ferrell Center in Waco.

Baylor jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the opening set, but Texas State went on a 6-2 run out of a timeout from head coach Karen Chisum to tie the game at 10-10 on an ace from Alexandra Simms. From there, Texas State took advantage of three consecutive attack errors by the Bears for the team's first lead of the match, 14-13. The teams played even from there until a five-point run late in the set gave Baylor a 23-20 lead before closing out the set 25-22.

Amari Deardorff had five kills on seven swings to lead the Bobcats offensively, while Laura Whalen's four digs paced the team defensively.

The Bobcats were again able to overcome an early deficit in the second set as the team went on a 13-2 run to go from down four points to ahead by seven, 18-11. Simms had a pair of aces during the run, and Molly Ahrens put up two blocks during the spurt. However, Baylor would answer with a run of its own late in the set, scoring nine straight points to pull ahead 24-22. After Texas State fought off a pair of set points to even the score at 24-24, Baylor got back-to-back kills to finish the set 26-24.

The third set began like the first two with Baylor taking the early advantage, but this time Texas State was unable to mount a comeback as the home team pulled away for a 25-14 win in the final set.

Baylor's block created problems for the Bobcats as the Bears finished with a 10.0-4.0 advantage, while also posting a .316 hitting percentage compared to a .074 clip for Texas State.

A bright spot for Texas State in addition to the team's resiliency was as the service line where the Bobcats posted six aces compared to just two errors for the match. Simms led the way with three aces to go along with eight kills.

Ashlee Hilbun led the team with nine kills, while Deardorff finished with seven and a .417 hitting percentage. Caleigh McCorquodale dished out 22 assists, and Whalen tallied nine digs and an ace from her libero position.

The next Bobcat action will take place this weekend when the team heads to Dallas for the SMU Invitational. Texas State will play two matches on Friday, September 7 – Auburn at 11 a.m. and SMU and 7:30 p.m. – before finishing the two-day tournament with an 11 a.m. match against Wichita State on Saturday.
