The Bobcats are trying to snap a six-game losing streak against Baylor dating back to 2001. Texas State's last win against the Bears was a five-set victory in 1996. The last time Texas State defeated Baylor in Waco was on September 14, 1990 when the team extended its winning streak to 13 games against the Bears. Overall, Texas State holds a 27-12-2 record against Baylor in 41 meetings.
Four-Match Winning Streak
The Bobcats are currently on a four-match winning streak entering Tuesday's game after defeating Sam Houston State last Tuesday in the team's home opener and sweeping all three matches last weekend at the Lamar Invitational.
WAC Player of the Week
After receiving Lamar Invitational MVP honors, senior Caleigh McCorquodale was named the WAC Player of the Week for the second week of the season. The Cypress, Texas (Cypress Woods HS) native averaged 7.21 assists, 3.29 digs, 0.86 kills and 0.43 blocks per set as she led Texas State to a perfect 4-0 record last week. McCorquodale began the week with her second double-double of the season, finishing with 20 assists, 20 digs and four blocks in a five-set win over Sam Houston State. She was then was named the Lamar Invitational MVP after leading the team to sweeps of South Carolina State, Tulane and Lamar, including the team's first win over the Cardinals in Beaumont since 2004. McCorquodale guided the Bobcat offense to a .261 team hitting percentage for the tournament, where she averaged 9.00 assists, 2.89 digs and 1.00 kills per set. She posted her second double-double of the week against Tulane, finishing with 33 assists and 13 digs.
Lamar Invitational All-Tournament Team
Senior setter Caleigh McCorquodale was named the MVP of the Lamar Invitational, while junior middle blocker Ashlee Hilbun and sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Simms were each selected to the all-tournament team. For the tournament, McCorquodale led the team to a .261 team hitting percentage while handing out 81 assists for an average of 9.00 assists/set. She also added 26 digs, nine kills with a .318 hitting percentage and two blocks. Hilbun contributed in all aspects throughout the weekend, finishing with 20 kills, 14 digs, six blocks and two aces. Simms had a team-high 33 kills during the three-match tournament for an average of 3.67 kills/set. She hit .280 and also contributed four blocks.
11 Aces
Texas State posted a season-high 11 aces against South Carolina State earlier this season as five different players recorded at least one. Sophomore setter Caylin Mahoney led the way with five aces - all of which came consecutively in the third set of the match.
Team Leader
Sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Simms has led the team in kills in five of seven games this season, including each of the past four matches.
