San Antonio, Texas –
The Texas State volleyball team could not find a rhythm Friday evening in San Antonio as the Bobcats fell to UTSA in three sets (25-13, 25-15, 25-18) at the Convocation Center.

The Bobcat offense never got going as the team to 6-8 overall on the season and 1-2 in the WAC with the loss, while UTSA improved to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in conference action.

Head coach Karen Chisum tried multiple different lineups throughout the course of the match, with 13 different Bobcats seeing action. However, UTSA used a strong all-around match in front of its home crowd along with 25 Texas State attack errors to earn the sweep.

“We've just got to get better,” Chisum said. “There were too many errors and mistakes on our side of the net.”

After dropping the first two sets, Texas State fell behind by five, 8-3, in the early going of the third set. The team would battle back to within one, 10-9, as setter Caylin Mahoney went on a four-point serving run, but Bobcat mistakes continued to plague the team as the Roadrunners went on to take the final set, 25-18.

For the match, Texas State was limited to two blocks defensively, while the Roadrunners hit.281 as a team compared to a .045 hitting percentage for the Bobcats.

Alexandra Simms led the team offensively with nine kills, while Deardorff added seven and Hilbun had five.

Caleigh McCorquodale handed out 15 assists to go along with nine digs, and Mahoney finished with 10 assists.

Laura Whalen led the back-row defense with 10 digs.

Texas State will hit the road for its first series of conference matches away from San Marcos next week when the team goes to Idaho on Thursday, September 27 for a match at 9 p.m. CST. The Bobcats then visit Seattle University on Saturday, September 29 for a match at 7 p.m. CST.
