San Marcos, Texas –Texas State (13-15, 5-9 SLC) men's basketball will host Lamar (18-11, 9-5 SLC) on Wednesday, Feb. 29. Lamar has already clinched a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament, while the Bobcats control their own destiny. Tip-off at Strahan Coliseum is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Series

Texas State will play Lamar for the 54th time in school history. The Cardinals won the last outing, 113-102, on March 2, 2011 in Beaumont. Texas State has won three of the last four outings versus the Cardinals.

Scouting Texas State

The Bobcats defeated I-35 rival UTSA on Saturday, Feb. 25. The victory gave Texas State its fourth straight win, and third consecutive win on the road. Matt Staff recorded 28 points and 12 rebounds en route to garnering SLC Player of the Week honors.

Texas State continues to lead the SLC in scoring offense (77.4 ppg), fifth in field goal percentage (.437), and second in three-point percentage (.368). The Bobcats sit in fifth place in the SLC West Division with a 13-15 overall record and a 5-9 record in league play.

The Bobcats are led in scoring by senior Brooks Ybarra with 13.3 ppg and 3.5 rpg. Junior forward Matt Staff is second with 13.0 ppg and 7.8 rpg.

Scouting Lamar

Lamar is 18-11, 9-5 in league play. The Cardinals are 7-9 on the road this season. The Cardinals snapped a two-game losing streak with a 72-49 win at Sam Houston State on Feb. 25. Lamar shot 53.6 percent from the field and edged the Bearkats on the boards, 36-23. Mike James scored 30 points to lead his team.

 

James is third in the league in scoring with an average of 16.7 points per game. Anthony Miles is second on the team with 14.2 ppg. Lamar ranks third in the league in scoring (74.3 ppg), second in free throw percentage (.717) and sixth in field goal percentage (.433).
