San Marcos, Texas –Texas State (12-15, 4-9 SLC) men's basketball will travel down to San Antonio to face UTSA (16-12, 8-5 SLC) in an I-35 Rivalry Series matchup on Saturday, Feb. 25. Tip-off at the Convocation Center is slated for 4 p.m.
Series
Texas State will play UTSA for the 53rd time in school history. The Roadrunners captured an 80-75 victory over the Bobcats on Jan. 21, 2012 at Strahan Coliseum. Texas State has won four of the last six outings versus the Roadrunners. The last time Texas State won at UTSA was on March 3, 2010.
Scouting Texas State
A buzzer beater by Brooks Ybarra helped the Bobcats garner the win at Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday night. The victory gave Texas State its third straight win, including back-to-back road victories.
Texas State continues to lead the SLC in scoring offense (77.8 ppg), fifth in field goal percentage (.438), and third in three-point percentage (.366). The Bobcats sit in fifth place in the SLC West Division with a 12-15 overall record and a 4-9 record in league play.
The Bobcats are led in scoring by senior Brooks Ybarra with 13.2 ppg and 3.4 rpg. Junior forward Matt Staff is second with 12.4 ppg and 7.6 rpg.
Scouting UTSA
UTSA is 16-12, 8-5 in SLC play. The Roadrunners are 7-4 at home this season and 4-2 in conference play at the Convocation Center.
The Roadrunners snapped a three-game losing streak with an 86-82 overtime victory over A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 22. UTSA shot 52.8 percent from the floor in the win and 74.1 percent from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners are led in scoring by Kannon Burrage. He is averaging 13.9 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game. Melvin Johnson III is second on the team in scoring with 13.3 ppg. UTSA is fourth in the league in scoring at 73.0 ppg and first in field goal percentage (.451). The Roadrunners also post the best three-point field goal percentage (.398).
