Bobcats Can’t Stop Streaking UT Arlington, Fall 73-53

Arlington, Texas – Texas State men's basketball was unable to stop the streaking UT Arlington Mavericks as they fell to the home team, 73-53, tonight at the College Park Center. The Bobcats drop to 9-15 overall and 2-9 in conference play. The Mavericks grab their 15th consecutive victory to improve to 19-5, 11-0 SLC.

Reid Koenen registered a career-high 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. Wesley Davis added 11 points. Texas State shot 29.3 percent from the field, despite recording eight three-pointers.

UT Arlington took control of the game from the beginning, and the Bobcats just weren't able to close in on the lead and take over. Despite being down by 10 points at the half, the Bobcats remained spirited. Turnovers definitely hurt Texas State, as they committed 23 to UT Arlington's 17. The Mavericks were able to score 42 points in the paint, which helped contribute to their 50 rebounds. UT Arlington finished 46.9 percent from the floor to take the 73-53 victory over Texas State tonight and to sweep the season series.   

Texas State trailed at the half, 35-25. The first half saw 14 turnovers by the Bobcats and nine by the Mavericks. The Bobcats made just eight baskets in the half, as Koenen led the way with 13 points. The Mavericks jumped out to an 8-0 run to start the game, before a layup by Koenen slowed things down.

UT Arlington was led in scoring by LaMarcus Reed who had 18 points and six rebounds. Kevin Butler had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Texas State returns to Strahan Coliseum on Wednesday, Feb. 11 to host A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m.  The Bobcats will then play at South Dakota in the Sears ESPN Bracketbusters game scheduled for Feb. 18.
