San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State (9-14, 2-8 SLC) men's basketball team will hit the road this weekend to face UT Arlington (18-5, 10-0 SLC), the only unbeaten team left in conference play. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7:00 p.m. at the recently constructed College Park Center.
Series
Texas State will play UT Arlington for the 55th time in school history. The last time the two teams met, the Mavericks escaped with an 82-79 win over Texas State at Strahan on Jan. 28, 2012. Texas State leads the all-time series, 30-24.
Scouting Texas State
Texas State snapped a six-game losing streak with a home victory over Central Arkansas on Feb. 8. The Bobcats are 6-0 this season when scoring 90+ points, while eight of the Bobcats nine wins this season came when Texas State shot 40 percent or better from the floor.
Texas State continues to lead the SLC in scoring offense (78.8 ppg) and is fourth in field goal percentage (.444), and third in three-point percentage (.365). Texas State sits in sixth place in the SLC West Division with a 9-14 overall record and a 2-8 record in league play.
The Bobcats are led in scoring by senior Brooks Ybarra with 13.1 ppg and 3.6 rpg. Junior forward Matt Staff is second with 11.7 ppg and 7.3 rpg. Senior Eddie Rios rounds out the top three with 10.7 ppg and 2.5 apg.
Scouting UT Arlington
UT Arlington is on a 14-game win streak and the only unbeaten team left in conference play. The first-place Mavericks have the third longest win streak in the country.
The Mavericks most recent victory came in a 75-63 win against Sam Houston State on the road. In the win at Sam Houston State, Bo Ingram led the Mavs with 21 points on 6-of-8 shooting. UTA shot 50.9 percent from the floor in the contest, including 10 three-pointers.
UTA is second in the league in scoring offense (76.7 ppg) and fifth in scoring defense at 66.0 ppg. The Mavericks are shooting a mere 44.7 percent from the floor and 32.7 percent behind the arc.
LaMarcus Reed is the team's leading scoring with average of 16.7 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game. Bo Ingram is second in scoring with 12.0 ppg and 4.0 rpg.
