San Marcos, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team will host San Jose State on Saturday and Utah State on Monday, as they open Western Athletic Conference (WAC) play. Saturday's tip is set for 2:00 p.m., while Monday's New Year's Eve tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.

This will be the first meeting against both San Jose State and Utah State.
Scouting Texas State
Texas State returns home after a three-game road trip. The Bobcats will play in their first-ever WAC game, since leaving the Southland. The Bobcats post a 3-3 record at home. Matt Staff, the nations' top free throw shooter (34-of-34) leads Texas State with 15.8 points per game. Joel Wright is averaging 6.7 boards per game. The Bobcats are fifth in the league in field goal percentage (.424).
Scouting San Jose State
San Jose State brings a 2-2 road record into Strahan Coliseum, including a two-game losing streak. The Spartans are led by James Kinney who has started nine of nine games. Kinney averages a league-best 22.6 points per game and a team-high 25 steals. The Spartans rank eighth in the league in field goal percentage (.413), but are third in the league in three-point percentage (.367). San Jose State is outrebounding its opponents by an average of 7.4 rpg. Three of San Jose State's five losses this season have been within 10 points.
Scouting Utah State
Utah State holds the best overall record in the league at 9-1. The Aggies are on an eight-game win streak, including a 2-0 road record. Utah State leads the league in field goal percentage team (.501), rebounding margin (+11.5), assists per game (17.0), and assist/turnover ratio (1.3). Preston Medlin is the Aggies top producer at 13.6 points per game, in addition to a team-high 36 assists. Jarred Shaw is the Aggies second-best scorer at 13.2 ppg and 8.8 rebounds per game.
