Box Score San Marcos, Texas – The Western Athletic Conference announced Monday that Texas State junior wide receiver
Andy Erickson has been selected as the league's Special Teams Player of the Week after helping the Bobcats win their first WAC game ever, 38-7, over Idaho last Saturday night.
Erickson led Texas State in punt return and all-purpose yards against the Vandals when he returned five punts for 76 yards and caught three passes for 48 yards.
His longest return of 36 yards came on the final play of the third quarter and helped set up a touchdown that punt Texas State up 31-7 in the contest. He also scored the first TD in the contest when he caught a 31-yard pass from
Shaun Rutherford. It marked the third straight game in which he has caught a touchdown pass after he caught the first TD pass of his career against Nevada.
Overall, Erickson leads the Bobcats and ranks second in punt returns this season after 15.7 yards on 12 returns. He also leads the Bobcats with 24 receptions and 332 receiving yards this year. His three touchdown receptions this season are tied for the team lead as well.
Texas State's next game will be on Oct. 27 when the Bobcats travel to San Jose State for a game that kicks off at 1:00 p.m. (Pacific) and 3:00 p.m. (Central).
