San Marcos, Texas – Saturday will be a battle of the top two scoring teams in the league as Texas State welcomes UT Arlington to Strahan Coliseum on Jan. 28. Saturday's game is scheduled to tip-off at 4 p.m.

Series

Texas State leads the all-time series, 30-23. The Bobcats won the last meeting, 79-71, on Feb. 12, 2011 in San Marcos. Texas State has won five of the last seven meetings.

Scouting Texas State

Texas State is coming off a 74-68 loss to A&M-Corpus Christi. The Bobcats fell to the Islanders for the first time since 2010. Eddie Rios and Matt Staff led the Bobcats in scoring with 18 points apiece.

The Bobcats lead the SLC in scoring (79.1 ppg) and is third in field goal percentage (.443), and third in three-point percentage (.362).

Texas State sits in sixth place in the SLC West Division with an 8-11 overall record and a 1-5 record in league play.

The Bobcats are led in scoring by senior Brooks Ybarra with 12.2 ppg and 3.7 rpg. Junior forward Matt Staff is second with 11.5 ppg and 7.7 rpg. Senior Eddie Rios rounds out the top three with 11.0 ppg and 2.7 apg.

Scouting UT Arlington

UT Arlington enters Saturday's game as the team in the Southland Conference to beat. The Mavericks are 14-5 overall and 6-0 record in conference play. UTA is the only undefeated team left in conference play. The Mavericks are 4-4 on the road so far this season.

 

The Mavericks are on a 10-game win streak, including a 79-74 victory over Houston Baptist on Tuesday night. In the win over Houston Baptist the Mavericks shot 44.4 percent from the floor and 82.5 percent from the free throw line. The Mavericks were led in scoring by Bo Ingram who scored 23 points and LaMarcus Reed who added 18 points.

 

Reed is the team's leader scorer averaging 16.0 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game. Bo Ingram is second in scoring with 11.7 ppg.

Texas State will hit the road next week with games at Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 1 and Nicholls on Feb. 4.
